Note we have voted to allow only the |...| symbols, freeing up \
outside of pipes.
We have also voted to allow normal \n mnemonic string escapes in addition to
hex escapes. This is what most implementations do, though it is incompatible
with SCSH.
I will update the fifth ballot results later today so we can
provide a full summary and start editing the draft.
